On June 21, The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame unveiled the ‘bust’ of its founder and 2010 Laureate, Dr. Calvin Stiller of London, Ontario. Dr. Stiller stood in awe amidst a small group of family, friends and colleagues humbled by his bronzed look-alike and overcome with gratitude towards his good friend, Mr. Joseph Rotman, who commissioned the work.
Not able to attend the 2010 Induction Ceremony in Calgary, it was Mr. Rotman’s wish to create a unique and lasting tribute to Dr. Stiller. The idea of a bust was particularly appropriate given Mr. Rotman’s passion for art and commitment to the life sciences.
Dr. Stiller’s bust will stand alongside the Hall’s only other bust – that of 1994 Laureate Sir Frederick Banting – and while it primarily honours Dr. Stiller as the founder of The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame, it also serves as a tribute to Dr. Stiller’s revolutionary contributions to Canadian medicine in transplantation and research and his countless other accomplishments as a brilliant physician, dedicated scientist, entrepreneur and visionary.
