The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame (CMHF) celebrates Canadian heroes whose work advances heath in Canada and the world, and fosters future generations of health professionals through the delivery of local and national youth education programs and awards. This enduring tribute to our country’s rich medical history is showcased on our virtual hall at www.cdnmedhall.ca Annually, up to six individuals are celebrated at a national gala (Induction Ceremony) in rotating locations across the country. As well, we inform and excite Canada’s youth about the wide variety of career options in medicine and health care through our Discovery Days in Health Sciences program. Discovery Days are one-day events held in partnership with host medical schools and research institutions at 14 locations across the country.

We are seeking a high energy and skilled communications professional to join our small but mighty team.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Are you dynamic and action-oriented? Do you enjoy developing creative and engaging content and communicating with diverse groups of people? If yes, this communications coordinator role might be for you. We work with medical schools, national and provincial health associations, corporations, CMHF Laureates, board members and other interested supporters to Honour Excellence, Preserve History & Inspire Generations in the health sciences. Reporting to the ED and rounding out our small but mighty staff team of six, as our communications coordinator you will oversee the planning, development, scheduling, and reporting of all communications strategy, monitor industry chatter about the organization and our Laureates, support the planning and execution of events, and elevate awareness of the organization. As the communications lead, you will ensure that all communications initiatives further our strategic priorities, all the while building new relationships and creating awareness opportunities for the organization.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Create compelling weekly content for all social media channels

  • Develop, drive, execute and monitor outreach and communications strategies to heighten awareness of the CMHF among national stakeholders (faculties of health sciences and medicine, funders, governments, and the health community at large)

  • Support all CMHF programs with outreach to key stakeholder groups, media outlets, influencers and build strategic partnerships to grow awareness

  • Draft a variety of written content to support communications, marketing and fundraising efforts including all social media content, media releases, annual reports, newsletters, website copy, stewardship reports and grant proposals

  • Monitor analytics and create reports detailing the results of communications campaigns and strategies

  • Manage relationship with freelance services (graphic design, translation, video products, etc.) to ensure projects are completed in a timely manner and to organizational standards

  • Remain current on industry trends and make recommendations for adjustments to communications strategies and practices

  • Undertake special project assignments as required

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education

  • 2 years’ experience in a communications or marketing role

  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills with demonstrated experience writing external-facing content

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and sense of accountability An analytical mind and ability to think critically

  • Knowledge of content design and planning software such as Canva and Hootsuite an asset

  • Knowledge of email marketing software such as Mailchimp or a similar program High proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint; capable of creating visually compelling presentations

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail Strong problem-solving skills

  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to be self directed while prioritizing, multi-tasking and managing competing deadlines

  • Demonstrated ability to make sound business decisions in a timely manner and work both independently and as a team member to achieve desired results

  • Strong work ethic, reliable and self-directed Ability to travel to events (usually three times per year) at required times which includes availability outside regular office hours

  • Fluency in French an asset
