A global authority in movement disorders
Anthony Lang, MD, is globally recognized for his advances in movement disorders and neurology. Through his exceptional integration of clinical observation, diagnostic science, and therapeutic research, Dr. Lang has helped develop frameworks for clinically and biologically evaluating Parkinson’s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders, including multiple system atrophy, progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), and corticobasal degeneration. He has been a leading force behind the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (MDS), including the development of the MDS-UPDRS, a frequently used tool in movement disorder research. His clinical research spans virtually all aspects of Parkinson’s disease and related disorders and has been critical in bringing several effective treatments to market. As a Professor of Neurology at the University of Toronto, Dr. Lang heads the Edmond J. Safra Program in Parkinson’s Disease and the Rossy PSP Centre at University Health Network, which have become two of the largest such programs in North America under his leadership. Throughout his career, Dr. Lang has also been a devoted mentor, training dozens of clinical fellows who have gone on to lead movement disorder programs internationally. His achievements reflect his dedication to the science and practice of neurology, and to the health of countless patients.
