HONOURING AND INSPIRING A NEW GENERATION OF HEALTH LEADERS AND INNOVATORS
LONDON, ON – August 13, 2026 - The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame (CMHF) is proud to announce the selection of 15 exceptional medical students from across the country as recipients of the 2026 CMHF Award. This award recognizes medical students who have demonstrated outstanding community leadership, superior communication skills and a strong commitment to advancing medical knowledge. Each recipient will receive a $5,000 cash prize and a travel subsidy to attend the 2027 Canadian Medical Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Montréal, Québec, on April 2, where they will have the opportunity to network with the newly inducted CMHF Laureates.
The CMHF partners with Canada’s faculties and schools of medicine, as well as other donors, to recognize young leaders who exemplify qualities of the CMHF Laureates: perseverance, collaboration and entrepreneurial spirit. The CMHF Award is sponsored by the Canadian Medical Association (CMA), MD Financial Management Inc. (MD), and Scotiabank. Together, the CMA, MD and Scotiabank are firmly committed to supporting the medical profession and advancing health in Canada. As proof of this commitment, and in collaboration with the CMA and MD, Scotiabank is investing $115 million to support physicians and the communities they serve across Canada.
“It is an honour to recognize and support the next generation of Canada’s doctors,” says Dr. Bolu Ogunyemi, Canadian Medical Association president. “These young leaders represent the future of our profession, and I look forward to witnessing the impact that they will have on patient care and innovation in the years to come. My heartfelt congratulations go to all the Award recipients."
“MD and Scotiabank are honoured to champion these remarkable future physicians as they drive innovation in healthcare and make a lasting impact in communities across Canada,” said MD Financial Management’s Managing Director and Head, Samar Sidhu. “Their passion for learning, service and leadership demonstrate a strong dedication to creating positive and lasting change. We congratulate the award recipients and look forward to seeing all they accomplish in the years ahead.”
Each of Canada’s faculties of medicine and health sciences facilitated the review of applicants and recommended one award recipient. Three letters of support are required, including a non-academic community reference describing their community impact, along with a 1,000-word essay outlining why they should be considered for the Award and articulating the qualities of a CMHF Laureate who inspires them most.
